First opened in 1971, Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida, now boasts no less than four theme parks, two water parks and numerous other attractions from golf to shopping.
Top of the bill is the original and best theme park, The Magic Kingdom.
Based on the original Disneyland in Anaheim, it's a fantastic place for children - of all ages! Centred around Cinderella's Castle, there is so much to see and do, including indoor and outsdoor theme park rides and Disney shows, including a fantastic firework display just before closing time every night.
Then there's Epcot, an educational theme park split into two - Future World with its vision of the future, and World Showcase, that brings a little from the four corners of the world to Disney.
Next stop is Disney's Hollywood Studios (previously known as Disney-MGM Studios), a theme park dedicated to movies and television. As well as some fantastic shows, there are some thrilling rides including The Twilight Zone Tower Of Terror (a 13 storey high vertical drop!).
Last but not least is Animal Kingdom, a wildlife discovery park that's a mix between a zoo and a theme park. As well as animal attractions, there are plenty of rides including a jeep safari, a raft ride and a time travel ride back to the time of the dinosaurs! The newest ride is Expedition Everest, a fantastic roller coaster ride - just watch out for the Yeti!
Getting to Disney World Florida is easy friom the UK. You can fly direct to Orlando International Airport from a number of UK airports and from there Disney World is just a short drive in either a hire car, taxi, limo or free bus (must be pre-booked). Orlando Sanford International Airport is further away and there is no free bus from there I'm afraid.
Interstate 4 is the most direct driving route into Walt Disney World. If you are coming from Miami or the south, use the Florida Turnpike. And if you have just stepped off a cruise ship at Port Canaveral, Florida State Route 528 links with the Turnpike and I-4.
Disney World itself offers all kinds of accommodation
options, from camping to luxury hotels. Many hotels in the area also offer free shuttle buses to and from Disney World.
