Okay, so you want to know what it's like to get behind the wheel of a genuine racing car as you put it through its paces on a genuine race circuit? Well look no further than Thruxton Race Circuit near Andover, Hampshire, where the good people of Thruxton Motorsport Centre are ready to show you the chequered flag!

The Racing Car Experience Day starts with an instructor driving you around the racing track in a Mazda MPS to get you in the mood. You'll do three circuits of the Thruxton track, which is one of the longest and fastest car tracks in the UK and home to regular superbike and car racing events.

Then it's your turn to get behind the wheel as you complete to three laps behind the wheel of a Porsche Cayman! This beautiful sports car is great fun and incredibly rewarding to drive. It gives great driver feedback thanks to its accurate and responsive steering and great handling balance.

And then it's time to do it all over again - but this time strapped into a Formula Renault racing car! Once in the cockpit, you become part of the car like every racing car driver that has gone before you. Every bump, camber and vibration is transmitted through the driver – you know and feel exactly what is happening. Slick tyres and wings give razor sharp responses – and even the slightest driver input is a noticeable direction change!

This two hour racing car driving experience costs £169 (March 2008 price) and spectators are welcome to witness you in action free of charge.

Drivers must hold a full licence and on the day drivers must wear clothes that cover their arms and legs. Helmets, race boots and gloves are provided.

Thruxton Race Circuit is just outside Andover (near Stonehenge), 40 minutes from Southampton, an hour from Heathrow and one hour 30 minutes from Bristol and Birmingham.
