Both military air forces and civil airline operators use flight simulators for training purposes. Indeed, modern flight simulators provide such high levels of realism that licensing authorities now allow them to be used for the renewal of a pilot’s instrument rating certificate.

The Yorkshire Flight Centre’s F4 Phantom simulator was built for the RAF using the cockpit section of a once operational flying aircraft. The RAF no longer fly Phantoms so this is your chance to get behind the controls to see if you have what it takes to be a top gun.

The Solo F4 Phantom experience costs £279 and includes a flight briefing followed by one full hour in control. Whilst in the hot seat you will experience day and night landings, bad weather, air turbulence, and if you’re up for it, an in-flight emergency! Shorter experiences are available from £149.

The Boeing 737 Simulator offers a completely different but no less exciting challenge. That of captaining a commercial airliner. Again the special individual session lasts between one and a half and two hours and includes one full hour in the captain’s seat. It costs £279 and shorter experiences are again available from £149.

There is also a special duo package available for £319 - a one and a half to two hour experience includeing a flight briefing followed by each participant having 30 minutes in control of the plane of their choice.
