Follow in the footsteps of Charles Darwin with a trip to the Galapagos Islands

A visit to the Galapagos Islands is a step back into time where you can see many of the same fauna, flora, and animals that Charles Darwin saw on his many visits. What he saw and collected while visiting these unique islands just off the coast of Ecuador inspired his writings of The Origin of Species.

Have you ever been to the Galapagos Islands? If so we would love to hear all about your experiences (perhaps with a photo or two). You can contact us via our contact page.

Plaza Island, Galapagos

Here you will be able to participate in many of the adventures that the archipelago offers along with ancient animals such as the Galapagos Tortoise that call the area home. As a matter of fact, the islands were named by Fray Tomas de Berlanga in 1535, after these huge tortoises that can weigh up to 660 pounds and measure four feet long. The average life span of these unique and awesome tortoises is 200 years.

The Galapagos Islands are pretty much secluded from the rest of the world as is all the species of animals. Because of this, you will be able to walk right up to all kinds of creatures, even sit, and watch them go about their daily tasks. However, in order to keep life, as it is on the Galapagos Islands, each visitor must respect the quiet solitude and remember not to disturb any creature along with keeping all the islands clean and free from populates.

There are seven main islands that you and your family can tour in the archipelago, each offering something new and exciting to see and do. The islands include Bartolomé Island, Tower Island, Santiago Island, Fernandina Island, Isabela Island, Santa Cruz Island, and Hood Island.

There is no place on earth with as much rich natural history, beautiful scenery, and unique terrain as you will find on the Galapagos Islands. Here you will be able to embrace nature as it was meant to be from scuba diving in pristine clear waters, to actually walking on up an active volcano, and seeing exotic animals and birds such as the Frigate.

Who knows on your visit there might even be another small island to explore as the sub-oceanic lava vent on the ocean floor, is causing the Galapagos Islands to slowly move east with the Nazca plate that forms more islands; as it moves on its way.

Even though there are seven major islands, there are a total of 60 islands that have been named so far in this archipelago.

A visit to the Galapagos Islands is not only a visit to the past, but since it is ever changing; it is visit to a new and exciting paradise.

Common misspellings: Galapogos, Galapagas
