Las Vegas is a truly original city, where the greatest landmarks are all reproductions, and the name of the game is gambling. This neon jungle is, at turns, classy, tacky, cheesy, and sleazy, but it's always entertaining. If there's one sure bet in this town, it's that you'll never be bored. Las Vegas For Dummies gives you the lowdown on this city, which is fast challenging Orlando as the number-one tourist destination in the U.S. The city has more hotel rooms (over 120,000) than any other, and for sheer spectacle, it's hard to beat this town. You can watch a volcano explode, see a pirate ship sink, stroll by the Arc de Triumph and cross the Brooklyn Bridge all on the same street. And then you can gamble. This guide will help you plan the best trip imaginable.

Las Vegas - Circus Circus Casino

Las Vegas is home to various shows, events, fine dining, shopping excursions, golf courses, great attractions, spas, wonderful nightspots, and, for romantics out there, it's even a great place to say, "I do". But let’s take a look at the casinos first.

Each casino is pretty much a world all by itself with a variety of things to see and do including museums, eateries, slot machines, gaming tables, and wonderful comfortable rooms.

A few of the most popular casinos located on what is known as the Las Vegas strip are the Bellagio with its magnificent fountains, Caesars Palace (fantastic for shopping!), Circus Circus, Excalibur, Harrah’s, Luxor, MGM Grand, Monte Carlo, Stratosphere, and Treasure Island. And there's no need to stake everything on black. Even if you just want to slip a few coins into the slot machines, the casinos are a must see on any Las Vegas itinerary.

In fact, even if you arrive in Las Vegas on a tight budget, just walking down the strip is a fascinating experience with all the lights, glitter, attractions, and the magic (don't miss the Vista Vision Light And Sound Show that plays nightly on a huge screen above Fremont Street).

There are all kinds of events and shows taking place in Las Vegas throughout the year - the likes of Bryan Adams at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, The Smothers Brothers at the Orleans Hotel & Casino, The American Taekwondo Association West Coast Tournament at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Jay Leno at the Mirage. These are just a few of the great events and shows that you can find on any given day in Las Vegas. From jazz to conventions, from world title boxing to rock n roll, if it's happening, you can be sure it's happening in Las Vegas.

Theme parks, spas, racetracks, tours or various kinds are just a few of the things that can take up some of your time while in Las Vegas, but when you need a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, head off on an excursion.

Fly over the Las Vegas area in a hot air balloon, tour the Grand Canyon, visit the Hoover Dam, visit Oatman Ghost Town, go river rafting, or take a Colorado River Jet Boat tour and visit London Bridge (yes London Bridge really was falling down and the yanks really did buy it - it now crosses Thompson Bay on the Arizona side of Lake Havasu).

You have also never played golf in such a beautiful area of the US if you have not played a round at one of the championship courses in Las Vegas. You can find a golf course on the strip like the Bali Hai Golf Course or several more in Henderson, Nevada, just on the outskirts of Las Vegas, like the Black Mountain Golf & Country Club.

Las Vegas is definitely one of the most exciting cities in the United States, with something for everyone, from children to seniors. This is a city that actually never sleeps and you will find exciting adventures around every corner. And gambler or not, you can bet your bottom dollar you'll be dazzled by the magical city that is Vegas.
