Take A Grand Tour Of Britain Aboard The Northern Belle

From the moment the Scottish piper escorts you to the gleaming carriages of the Northern Belle, you know you are about to embark on a journey of a lifetime. A week long tour of this green and pleasant land of ours.

The Northern Belle is known as “The Orient Express of The North” and for good reason. Steeped in the tradition of the majestic Belle trains of the 1930s, it is in fact the first luxury train to have been built this century. Departing from Victoria Station in London, it will take you on a journey around Britain, visiting towns and cities along the way where you will stay at classic hotels.

First stop is York where you will visit Castle Howard before continuing your journey over the border, into Scotland and to Edinburgh, your home for three nights. After a day in Edinburgh, you will dine aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, once the floating home of the Queen. The following day and its on Blair Atholl and Blair Castle where a troop of Scottish dancers will entertain you. Later that day you can visit a distillery or even play a round of golf.

Day four sees your journey south again through the beauty of the Scottish Borders and the tranquil farmland of the Pennine and Cumbrian Fells. In the afternoon you will arrive in Chester, the most complete walled city in Britain, but not before you travel along the Settle to Carlisle railway, one of the most famous rail journeys in the world thanks to its soaring viaducts over the Yorkshire Dales.

Chester will be your host for two days from where you will journey aboard the Northern Belle along the North Wales coast before boarding a coach that will take you to the island of Anglesey. The next morning is spent in Chester and then in the afternoon you travel through the Welsh Marches en route to the spa city of Bath. Your time in Bath will include a private viewing of the Roman Baths and a night at the Bath Spa Hotel.

After a leisurely morning in Bath the following day, a steam engine joins the Northern Belle to take you through the countryside of Southern England and back to London where your journey must unfortunately end.

A ticket will cost you £3,100 per person (2007) based on shared accommodation in a superior room at The Glasshouse, The Chester Grosvenor and The Bath Spa Hotel. It also includes all travel on board the Northern Belle, sightseeing visits and entertainment, baggage handling, table d’hôte meals and all house brand drinks on board and other meals as described in the itinerary.
