Fly Like A Bird In The Sky - With A Trained Bird Of Prey As Your Guide

Paragliding represents the purest form of flight known to man. By making use of the elements and rising currents of warm air you can stay aloft for hours and travel miles with a simple aircraft that weighs just 10kg and can be carried in a rucksack.

Have you ever been paragliding? If so we would love to hear all about your experiences (perhaps with a photo or two). You can contact us via our contact page.

Fly Like A Bird While Paragliding In The HimHimalayan Frontiers offer you the opportunity to not only fly like a bird in the skies over breathtaking Nepal, but the once in a lifetime experience of flying with a trained bird of prey as your guide. A Phariah Kite that will fly with you, finding and marking lifts for you as you soar and glide over lakes and fields, the stunning Himalayas in the background.

Himalayan Frontiers are the only paragliding company operating in Nepal, with their head office in Pokhara, a beautiful lakeside town 150km west of Kathmandu, the capital of the mountain kingdom.

The birds that will guide you in your flight are not taught to hunt in the traditions of the ancient art of falconry, but Himalayan Frontiers use the same age old methods to train them to fly with you and to guide you to the thermals which allow you to stay aloft.

Over an informal breakfast you will be taught the history and practice of falconry and you will be given the opportunity to handle and fly the birds.

Once competent in the handling of the birds, you will be taken by jeep to the launch site at Sarangkot from where you can see three of the highest mountains in the world, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manasulu, all over 8000m.

You will then be fitted into your harness and attached to a fully qualified tandem pilot who will then launch off into the sky with a trained Phariah Kite. Your kite will guide you to the thermals and you will reward him by calling him to your fist during your parahawking flight.

Along the way it is not unusual to encounter wild birds of prey, including the huge Himalayan Griffon Vulture, Egyptian Vultures, Golden Eagles, many species of falcon and numerous kites, who will join you in your flight.

Tandem Parahawking flights cost US$80 (about £45) and two longer courses are also available.

Parahawking Adventures For Non Pilots is a three to six day course based on the fundementals of training birds of prey, handling and flying the birds and includes two Tandem Parahawking flights. This experience costs US$180 per day plus US$80 per tandem flight and includes your accommodation in a three or four star hotel, breakfast and lunch, and all transport excluding flights to and from Nepal.

Parahawking Adventures for Pilots is a seven day adventure and is a totally unique opportunity for pilots to experience flying solo with a trained bird of prey. includes learning the fundementals of training birds of prey, a Tandem Parahawking flight and solo Parahawking. Prices are the same as those for non-pilots above.

Himalayan Frontiers also offer jungle safaris, trekking and mountain biking. Full details can be found on the Himalayan Frontiers website or by contacting Scott Mason on 01737 224294.
