Go sky diving!

Fancy throwing yourself out of a plane for the ultimate in adrenaline rushes? Well skydiving, the general term for sport parachuting, is what you are looking for. And for those who don't want to exit a plane while it's still in the air, there's indoor sky diving too!

Have you ever been skydiving? If so we would love to hear all about your experiences (perhaps with a photo or two). You can contact us via our contact page.

Sky Diving

For novice skydivers, a tandom sky dive is perfect. You'll be connected to a to an experienced skydiver via a harness and he or she will control the whole jump from exiting the plane through freefall, piloting the canopy, and landing. You just have to enjoy the ride!

You'll need only minimal instruction before making a tandem jump. After a short pre-jump briefing you will be provided with a skydivers jump suit to go over your clothes (you should wear comfortable clothing such as a tracksuit and trainers). Then after fitting a tandem parachute harness, headgear and goggles, the jump plane will take 20-25 minutes to reach the required 12,000 altitude - then it's gren for go!

You can make a tandem parachute jump from airfields in Cumbria, Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Fife, Devon and Wiltshire and the price is £269.

If you would rather make a solo parachute jump, a two day course is also available at the above locations, price £220. After a day's intensive training it will be time to take to the skies! The pumping adrenalin that you will experience on your ascent only enhances the exhilaration you will feel after the jump. As for the jump itself, 3,000 feet of leisurely descent will give you plenty of time to admire the stunning views on the way down!

The minimum age for sport parachuting in the UK is 16 years (for those less than 18 years of age consent is required from a parent or guardian) and if you are 40 years of age or over you must obtain written approval from your Doctor. An additional compulsory British Parachute Association membership fee of up to £30 on the day of the jump.

And for those who want to experience sky diving without the need to throw yourself out of a plane, why not try indoor skydiving? And the good news is kids as young as five can have a go! It takes place in Buckinghamshire in a specially constructed wind tunnel which allows you to taste the thrill of freefall in a totally safe and controlled environment.

Chocks away!
